The Last One
Valerie, the 4-year-old walking chatterbox I babysit, came waltzing through the door early this morning announcing to all her latest observations about the recent addition of Christmas lights to the outside of my home and asking why I have decorations on my house.  Well?  I don't know Valerie, I guess because I like them... give me a break kiddo... it's barely 8 in the morning... my brain doesn't even function until at least 9.
With chocolate donuts in tow and Kaleb, Valerie's friend and 3-year-old partner in crime, close behind her, she is banished to
the dining room to consume the small pack of brown mess makers before they become embedded in my carpet.
Valerie's been gracing the doors of my home since she was barely able to sit up so she knows the drill well around here.  And rule number one is, Ms. Sherry provides your breakfast but you can bring food from home too... just be prepared to share it with any other kids already here.  We don't have bug eyed, mouth-drooling onlookers standing by wishing they could have some too.  Everyone shares.  So her asking Kaleb if he wanted some of her chocolate donuts was not out of the ordinary.  It's expected.
As I fumbled around in the kitchen trying to pop some bread in the toaster for breakfast still, it also did not surprise me when Valerie announced to Kaleb that he could have some but not the last one.  That's pretty typical I thought to myself.  Boy, she's been around me too much I even think :::: smile :::: because I've thought that to myself many times.

The last one is always the best, isn't it?

You find the last piece of pie sitting in the fridge ... ohhhh ... it's your lucky day!!  There's a fantastic sale on at the store and when you get there, lo and behold, only one more of what you wanted is left on the shelf and you get to it before someone else can!  'God must be smiling on me' you think to yourself.  Or you are sharing a bag of chips and get to the bottom ... who want's the last one??  Me, me, me.  Who wants to give up their last bite of anything practically?  I feel like I've missed the grand finale somehow if I miss the last bite of my steak.  And don't even ask me for me last bite of strawberry cheesecake... somethings just aren't meant to be shared.  I'm not that bad really ... well ... maybe not quite that bad ... except for the cheesecake :::: smile ::::
You know, I was thinking.  God thought that " the last              one"  was pretty special, too.  Jesus was the last thing we'd ever have need of.  The final sacrifice.  The second Adam.  The last one.  He's even the last one given in the list of the geneology of Abraham, too.  After Him, it was all irrevelant so why bother.  Actually, Jesus was the first and the last ... the Alpha and the Omega ... so I guess He was extra, extra special, huh?  But we already knew that didn't we?
Well, back to the Val story.  She and Kaleb had all but demolished the pack of donuts, which took all of about two minutes, and that "special" last donut was all that remained.  What she did next just made me so proud of her.  "Here Kaleb," she said holding out the supplier of unending energy I'd be having to deal with for the next two hours, "You can have it."

As I was placing the jar of strawberry jam back into the refrigerator, a smile spread across my face.  'It just doesn't get anymore precious than that,' I thought to myself.  Then I think back to when Jesus was sent to earth and God, knowing what was to come, said to us that day, "Here you are, my loved ones, you can have Him."  The precious gift of His Son.  The Last One.
I was still standing there lost in my own little world of blissful thoughts, when Kaleb's next action brought it all to a screeching halt.  He took the donut, took a bite off of it and then said, "I don't want it."  I bit my tongue, but my first thoughts were, 'Well, how dare he!  She stood there and gave him something that she prized then he takes it, spoils it so that she can't have it back, and then rejects it and it ends up going into the trash can.'
Then I see the meaning of the object lesson the Lord has just given me.  Don't so many people do just that same thing?  God gave us the gift of HIs Son for the salvation of our souls.  He became flesh and dwelt among us.  He gave Himself.  The spotless lamb.  The final sacrifice man would ever need.  Did they embrace Him or did they spit upon Him?  Did they sing praises to His name or curse Him?  Even on the cross.  One accepts.  One rejects.  Today, He is preached in the churches, on the television, in books, on radios, in football stadiums, and in the inner confines of the walls of a prison.  Those that sit under the voice of annointed vessels of God have a choice to make.  They're like Kaleb.  They've had enough of the good stuff... the Word ... to know what the Truth tastes like.  Now what are they going to do with it?  Receive it with gratefulness?  Or let the sacredness of the sacrifice that God made to give The Last One to us go to waste?

"If you don't want it, put it in the trash can, Kaleb,"
I turn to him and say.

Point received Lord.

I still smile when I think of Val's offer tho.
Still smile when I think of God's too.

But ya still ain't gettin' my last bite of strawberry cheesecake
:::: smile ::::

Okay, okay Lord.  I'll work on it.
Be blessed and be a blessing!

(Introduction)

(Verse 1)
Precious Lord, Savior Dear,
Nothing can compare,
Nothing can compare.
Bringing hope, calming fear,
Nothing can compare,
Nothing can compare...

(Chorus)
With the wonders of the love You have shown to the world,
And the grace that freely flows from Heaven's throne.
You are the Light of the world, I pray to You.
Nothing compares with the miracles You do.
Nothing in Heaven and nothing on Earth
Compares with Your greatness, O Lord.

(Verse 2)
Shining forth glory bright,
Nothing can compare,
Nothing can compare.
Lamb of God, guiding Light,
Nothing can compare,
Nothing can compare...

(Repeat Chorus)
With the wonders of the love You have shown to the world,
And the grace that freely flows from Heaven's throne.
You are the Light of the world, I pray to You.
Nothing compares with the miracles You do.
Nothing in Heaven and nothing on Earth
Compares with Your greatness, O Lord.

(Ending)
You are the Light of the world.
Nothing compares with You, Lord.
You are the Light of the world.
Nothing compares with You, Lord.

Father God, You are so gracious in so many ways... never more so though than when You sent Your Son to this earth to die for our sins.  The sacrificial Lamb of God who willingly gave His life at Calvary so that mankind, who You made in Your image, could once again stand Holy and blameless before You.  Jesus... the Christ child... what a precious, precious gift You have given us, Father.  Lord, may we not ever let the love and sacrifice You have shown go to waste.  You have provided the means.  You have sent forth Your Word.  You have pricked the hearts of man that they might believe.   May You continue to draw each one through Your Holy Spirit and prepare hearts to receive this precious gift of life.  You have done Your part, Lord.  It is now up to each one to accept or reject that which You have so lovingly provided.  I ask that You be with each visitor to this site, Father.  For those who have not received Jesus as their Lord and Savior, let this be the day that they choose life by saying "Yes" to Jesus.  For those who need healing of body, mind, soul or spirit, let this be the day that they completely surrender it all to you and receive everything that You have to give them, Lord.  Draw each one into a closer walk with You, Father.  Give us Kingdom eyes that we might seek Your face; give us a servant's heart that we might do Your will.  With all of my heart, I give You praise, Lord, and thank You for all that You are.  To God be the honor and glory and praise forever.. in Jesus' name we pray... amen and amen.

Hi Friend... the joy of the Lord to YOU !

Life can be fascinating at times... but you know what??  God is fascinating all the time.  It never ceases to amaze me how many different ways He is continuously reaching out to us to whisper bits and pieces of what He would have us to learn.  I read something one time that mentioned about being led by the eye of God.  I thought "WOW... now that is a place where I'd like to be in my walk of faith... to be so in tune with God that all He had to do was glance in a direction and I'd know to do this or that."   You know, there are times when God can just whisper something to your heart and you know without a doubt it is God speaking to you.  But for me, that isn't always the case.  To be perfectly honest, sometimes I don't listen too well at all.... sometimes I think He is practically shouting the message to me and I still just ain't getting it for some reason or another.  It's those times when a little tap on the shoulder from Him just isn't gonna do it.... sometimes He has to practically whack me up side the head with a 2 X 4 before the light finally comes on and I get the message  :  )  but I do get it.. eventually.

I love the truth the Lord revealed to me thru Val and her donuts last year.   Who would have ever thought of such a thing?  Only God.  Simple reminders found in simple things that we do everyday and never think about... WOW... maybe God is leading us with His eye more than we thought, huh??

Be watchful and don't miss out.. ok?!  :  )

Have a blessed day!

Love in Christ,
Sherry
